Our Commitment

World Farmers was founded to create access to opportunities for those marginalized by our larger society. This idea is imbedded in our mission and continues to frame all the work that we do.

We represent farmers from all over the world, from many ethnicities, nationalities, and religions, and we do so proudly.

Season through season, seed to seed, we have stood by farmers, assisting them to nourish and flourish their harvests. World Farmers believes that everyone, no matter their background or ethnicity, has the right to a life lived with dignity, and we have worked alongside our many black brothers and sisters throughout the African Diaspora to do so.

It is with a heavy heart and fierce sense of love and protection that we release this statement in support of “Black Lives Matter”.  As a land based organization we know that there is no life without land, and we have had the privilege of witnessing the great success of Black farmers in their businesses and in cultivating a true space of community as well as constituency here at Flats Mentor Farm and across the country.

As we endure with the rest of the world the injustices born out of false ideologies and oppressive systems that Black people in America face, we vow to continue to ensure refuge by way of food and land, and ensure our efforts provide real resources to marginalized communities that contribute to uplifting and securing life with dignity.

World Farmers believes that all lives can't matter until “Black Lives Matter”

If you believe the same, we challenge you to:

  • Listen to Black people, be gentle with Black people, invest in Black people as leaders, create safe space for black emotional expression, and believe in the vision, intelligence, and self determination of black people to create a world where black people can live in dignity.
  • Support Black farmers as agricultural business owners and land owners.
  • Support Black leadership as policy makers, conservationists, directors, and visionaries.
  • Invest in Black Enterprises at your local Farmers Markets through consuming and purchasing.
  • Support and faciliate just transition land efforts for black farmers (white landowners transitioning ownership to black farmers).
  • Directly address oppressive, racist and misogynist ideologies that serves as a detriment to the sustainability and success of Black communities.
